North Valley Vineyards 2014 North Valley Rosé

A magical place

Rosé selection curated by Kaitlin Ohlinger, The Wine Snob.

There isn't a more magical location than Soter's Mineral Springs Ranch, located just up the road from Anne Amie in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. After a successful run in California, Tony Soter planted 15 acres of Pinot Noir on the Mineral Springs Ranch (you can call it the MSR, to be like the hip kids) in 2002 and 2003. 15 more followed in 2006, along with 2 acres of Chardonnay used for their sparkling wine program.

Enter North Valley! A recent collaboration between Tony, his wife Michelle, longtime winemaker James Cahill and director of sales & marketing Brian Sypher, this team is ready to kick some serious @ss. Working with vineyard sites all over the valley while maintaining their firm responsibility to sustainable farming is no small task. You couldn't find a more superb group than these four to take it on.

Cellar 503 Tasting Notes

North Valley Vineyards, Newberg, Oregon
2014 North Valley Rosé

A delicately woven blend of predominantly Pinot Noir with splashes of Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer. This wine soars with high notes of fresh red flowers, strawberries & cream, and streaks of tart pomegranate, cranberry and cherry blossom. Traces of spice linger in the back palate, and the mouthfeel is lifted and effortless. Bone dry, this wine’s strength is in its versatility; it has enough personality to hold its own over a meal, yet is fun and thirst-quenching enough to qualify as a “porch pounder”. I find this particular wine’s flavors really come alive when served only slightly chilled.

Soter’s “North Valley” label is but a few years old, but is poised with a powerhouse team of partners that are passionate about both grapes and the earth that grows them. Be on the lookout for the new North Valley tasting room, set to open in late June.
