William Rose Wines 2020 Grenache
The Power & Elegance of Steelhead Run Vineyard
Winemaker Mark Nicholl has had one spectacular year! In 2023 he decided to turn 50, get married, have a baby and buy a vineyard....and all before harvest has started.
Mark has had experience making wine all over the world, including Australia, France, Italy, California, and Oregon! Mark worked as the head winemaker at Sweet Cheeks for nine years, before William Rose Wines was born.
Rather than pursue a vineyard in the hills of Eugene, he chose to look throughout the entire state for grapes. Knowing Oregon is a spice cabinet of grapes, with different varietals growing all over the state, he wanted to take advantage and have endless possibilities of the wine he chooses to make. William Rose Wines are produced on site at the Oregon Wine LAB from fruit grown in vineyards around Oregon wine country, ranging from the rolling hills of the Willamette Valley to the warm and sultry valleys of the Umpqua and Rogue.
Owner of the Oregon Wine Lab, an urban winery located in Eugene - Mark and his amazing team support small producers of all disciplines offering a great line up of Oregon beer, cider and other small-lot wineries - not to mention YABAI NIKKEI: a Japanese-american farm-to-table food cart that's all the rage. Having just purchased Anindor Vineyard in the Elkton Area, we are excited that this amazing vineyard site will benefit from his knowledge and experience and can't wait to see what Mark makes next.
Cellar 503 Tasting Notes
William Rose Wines, Eugene, Oregon
2020 Grenache
Steelhead Run, Applegate Valley
Silky tannins wrap around a core of bright red fruit and cedar. This Grenache boasts a beautiful barely translucent and bright deep-red color, a clear sign of its lively acidity. Let your taste buds revel in the abundance of fruit-forward notes that dominate the palate, your nose the perfumed floral aromatics. A delightful wine that brings a burst of freshness to any occasion.
Pro-Tips:
~Chill this in the fridge for 10 minutes before serving to really enjoy the glass as this wine unfolds.
~For those of you who have not yet enjoyed the Los Rocosos Grenache from August, Liz suggests tasting these two wines together to showcase the differences in growing region and style.
