Kriselle Cellars 2021 Sauvignon Blanc
The richness of the Rogue Valley
One of my favorite places on this entire planet is the back deck at Kriselle Cellars — in the shadow of the magnificent Upper Table Rock, looking out over the vineyard as the Rogue River runs through the valley in front of you.
The scenery is glorious enough, and then some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet hand you a glass of extraordinary wine and a slice or two of amazing wood-fired pizza and, well, you’ll never want to leave.
The entire operation — from the vineyard to the winery to the tasting room — runs on solar power harvested right there and sustainability is practiced all the way through from the vine to the table. Stand on that back deck and you’ll be overcome with gratitude for the planet.
Kriselle Cellars is the product of an extraordinary partnership — Scott Steingraber, focused on the craft of their beautiful wines; Kris Steingraber, focused on sustainable cultivation of world-class grapes; and director and partner, Nora Lancaster, whose business savvy and graceful customer service elevates the entire operation.
Cellar 503 Tasting Notes
Kriselle Cellars, White City, Oregon
2021 Sauvignon Blanc
I’d been waiting several years for Kriselle Cellars to increase production enough on this wine that we could include it in the club – and my waiting has paid off!
This is a more elegant French-style Sauvignon Blanc; not the over-the top mouth-full-of-grass-clippings Sauvignon Blanc that you’ll sometimes experience.
There is still a wonderful herbal quality to be found, but it is nicely balanced with aromas of ruby grapefruit, kaffir lime, and lemongrass. Bright notes of green apple, tangerine, and kiwi — nicely balanced with a hint of creaminess.
Great with scallops, prawns, and oysters or as a complement to rich sauces or soups like clam chowder!
