Janie has been at the helm of Brooks Winery for two decades and has led by championing sustainability and centering commitments to land and people. Janie’s leadership extends globally through her work with The Trotter Project, which brings culinary arts and agriculture education to underrepresented communities, and her efforts toward Porto Protocol membership, the wine industry’s climate action network. 2023 Oak Ridge Gewürztraminer
Oak Ridge is planted on a hillside above the White Salmon River on the way to Trout Lake. It is the Northernmost vineyard in the Columbia Gorge and the one most impacted by weather systems from Mt. Adams. It is farmed in a gentle and thoughtful way by Thomas and Marlene Woodward.
The wine from the site is Alpine in a way that transcends this grape variety from what can be an austere European style to that which only the Pacific Northwest can express. Meticulous care showcases the essential qualities of this classic Columbia Gorge site, revealing both alpine and volcanic origins that make it a compelling contrast to traditional terroir typical to the surrounding growing area.
A beautiful Gewürztraminer with classic notes of rose petal, ginger, and lychee with a pleasant weightiness on the palate. Comprised of Gewürztraminer grapes from the Oak Ridge vineyard located in the Columbia Gorge on the Washington side by White Salmon. These vines were planted in 1984 in wind-blown loess soil at 1,400 feet in elevation with south facing exposure.
